6 month share of chicken; June through November
At Lamppost Farm, we are excited to be participating in the Grow Youngstown CSA and providing you with a pastured poultry option that we call "Just Chicken". Now, in our third year of farming, our land is springing to life as we re-generate the soil by pasturing animals, particularly the chickens. We raise chickens for the majority of their lives on our pastures and move them daily to fresh pasture and a buffet of insects. We do not use any chemicals on or in any of our products. Any soil amendments are done with natural products. And, our grass is getting more nutritious by the season. What you receive is "Just Chicken".
In addition to re-generating pasture and raising our animals in a manner that is consistent with nature's design, we believe chickens should be bought and consumed as a whole. This belief rises out of a conviction that the American choice to eat "all white meat" indirectly promotes an unfair/unjust system where the unwanted parts of chickens are shipped to those who are less privileged, at a cost that often undercuts indigenous growers. "Just Chicken" is also fair chicken.
Our chickens are packaged whole and frozen. And, customers will need to bring a cooler for transportation from the pick-up site. We will process chickens at our farm, monthly throughout the summer. Shares of fresh chicken are available for six months of delivery from June through November. In addition, we will have a flock ready for Memorial Day weekend. If so, we will deliver Memorial Day Saturday per request.
